
Saina Nehwal and Wang Lin have one thing in common – on top of a match, they have just played recently in the Aviva Singapore Open and the fact that they will both be in Sunday’s finals: they are the two former world Junior Champions, in 2008 and 2007 respectively. In addition, they showed Saturday in the center court that they were definitely belonging to the senior circuit, handling pressure in the best manner.
In the final Saina Nehwal beat Wang Lin 12-21 21-18 21-9, in an edge-of-the-seat thriller that lasted 49 minutes. Nehwal having lost to the world number three at the Aviva Singapore Super Series the previous week.
Saina Nehwal on Sunday scripted history by becoming the first Indian to win a Super Series tournament. Saina Nehwal (born 17 March 1990) currently ranked number eight in the world. Saina is the first Indian woman to reach the singles quarterfinals at the Olympics and the first Indian to win the World Junior Badminton Championship.
